Some of you, and you know who you are, may have noticed a reduction in the posts, videos, and regular content that I produce for Axiom Body Piercing, Skin Kitchen Tattoo, and the Body Piercing & Tattooing YouTube Channel. It came to a grinding halt a while back.
There is a good reason for this; the main one being that the last time I built the Axiom's website, Axiompiercing.com, was in 2016. The site, which was primarily designed as a business site with an educational blog focus, didn't align well with my transition to video as the main format. Anyone who has gone down the rabbit hole that is axiompiercing.com knows there is more content than one would expect, and the biggest struggle was making that content easy to locate.
There was also the issue with the site being outdated, running on Drupal 8. For those who don't follow the CMS news, the current version is Drupal 11. There was also an issue with updating the site, which caused major display problems. Some of the parts were worn out and needed replacement and repair.
This left me with two options: to keep the current structure and update the site to a more current version, or to start from scratch and rebuild from the ground up. Updating the current site would likely lead to significant display issues and not resolve the problem of organizing the growing content or provide sufficient space for further expansion. So, from scratch it is.
The biggest issue is that this takes a great deal longer than a simple update. Since the Taxonomy has changed and how the site displays content in views, it means manually moving over 1300 pages of content to the new site. Additionally, because DaVoish was often not quite English, it involves editing and updating information in blogs written over 20 years ago. So, it's taken a while and will likely continue for a bit longer.
Since this is taking up most of my focus, which goes into filming, editing, and posting videos, the channel has been on hold since May. There is a lot in the planning stage, and I'm excited about some of the content I have planned. However, until the new site is ready to launch, I won't be able to move forward.
The site's structure is currently complete, and all necessary features are functioning correctly. I like the new layout, which is more modern, and I feel it is easier to navigate. In fact, at this point it seems to be loading much faster than the old site, and I'm considering removing or limiting ads on the new site.
The thing that I'm excited about is the piercings section. Each piercing will have its own dedicated page, featuring a brief description, a scheduling link, a gallery, and all related content. Meaning that if you are researching your next piercing, you can visit the page and find all the written and video content I've produced specifically for that piercing.
Here's the list of goals that have to be completed to launch the new site:
