Vertical Labret Piercing is a lip piercing that is angled more vertically and done with a curved barbell so that both ends of the jewelry are outside of the mouth. Commonly done in the center of the mouth, but can be done on the side.

History: The Lip is a piercing done by many tribes in South America, Africa, and the Inuit and Pacific Northwestern Indian Tribes. One example is the women of the Sara tribe in Central Africa, who use saucer-shaped plugs to spread or stretch their lips after slitting.

ADVANTAGES: Aside from adornment, the piercings offer no other benefits or uses.

DISADVANTAGES & CONCERNS: Due to the location of the piercings, they are prone to causing damage to teeth and gums. 

MAIN HASSLES: The piercing must be cleaned twice daily during the healing process, which typically lasts 2-3 months. For the first 2-4 weeks, follow the Aftercare for Oral Piercings. Additionally, a change in diet is recommended for up to 2 weeks. The worst part of lip piercing is the swelling in the first 1-5 days, which can make eating and speaking difficult. A change in diet is needed to reduce swelling. We suggest cutting down on your intake of alcohol, tobacco, spicy foods, and ingesting other harass items. Additionally, cross-contamination prevention is necessary (such as refraining from deep mouth kissing for 8 weeks).
