Information on the Tongue Piercings

Tongue Piercings

HISTORY: The Tongue piercing dates back to the mid-80s, but is quickly becoming one of the most popular piercings done today.

ADVANTAGES: Makes kissing and oral sex more interesting.

DISADVANTAGES & CONCERNS: The primary concern is damage to the bones at the top and bottom of the mouth, as well as the gums and teeth. This is why downsizing the length of the barbell is needed within 7 to 10 days after the piercing. If there are signs of damage the piercing should be abandoned as soon as possible.

MAIN HASSLES: The worst part of the Tongue piercing is the swelling in the first 3-5 days, which makes eating and speaking difficult. A change in diet is needed to reduce swelling. We suggest cutting down on your intake of alcohol, tobacco, spicy foods, and ingesting other harass items. Additionally, cross-contamination prevention is necessary (such as refraining from deep mouth kissing for 8 weeks). Due to swelling, the piercing is performed with a longer barbell and needs to be reduced as soon as possible.

Groupings: There are two groupings that we do at the Axiom;

  1. Midline Row - this is two or more midline tongue piercings in the center of the tongue. The tongue needs to be long enough, and the further forward the piercing, the higher the risks of damage to teeth, gums, and bone structure.
  2. Venom Bites - this is two tongue piercings side by side. Must have the anatomy to get these. Increased contact with the sides of the mouth makes the risks higher than a Midline tongue piercing.
