Information on Floating Industrial Piercings

Floating Industrial Piercings

The Floating Industrial is done with a barbell that has been bent on one side to a 90-degree angle or is L-shaped. One side of the piercing is through the helix at the front of the ear, and then the bent side is pierced into the flat of the upper ear. This can give the illusion that the barbell is held in place in the front but is floating on the other side.

The main advantage of Floating Industrials is that they can often be done in ears where the person's anatomy does not work for a more traditional helix-to-helix industrial. However, it is a more complex piercing to perform, requiring the piercings to be exact and the jewelry to be bent perfectly to fit them.
