A grouping of 3 more Frenum piercings usually runs down the underside of the shaft of the penis. However, it can be done on the top or side also.

The earliest reference is in the Zeirshrift Fur Ethnologie which stated that “Amongst the Timorese Of Indonesia, the Frenulum below the glans of the penis is pierced with brass rings…the function if the ring is to enhance stimulation during sex.”

There is piercing lore that claimed that the piercing was used as a form of chastity but there is no proof that it ever was during antiquity.

In modern times it was developed in the Gay BDSM subculture and then introduced to the general public with the uprising of Modern Professional piercing. This is when the ladder of piercings began.

Jacob’s ladder is a reference to the bible and Jacob’s Ladder to heaven.

Things to look for:

Piercer is experienced in this piercing, professional, informative and make you feel comfortable and offer a consultation that involves aftercare, risks, etc… The piercer should evaluate your anatomy.

Should have correct jewelry as in no thinner than 12g and with a barbell unless it is inside the foreskin
-
Can bleed for 5-6 days and you may need to use a sanitary napkin or pad. Buy them in advance.

It is not going to feel comfortable to have sex for the first week or more.

If you are doing a ladder, usually three is about the limit.

Does the piercer provide aftercare products and written and verbal aftercare instructions?
The Piercing Experience:

For the marking, if you are doing a ladder, have your piercer mark out the additional piercings. Double-check the markings and make sure they appear even and straight.

Should be done with forceps

The jewelry follows the needle. May use a threaded taper pin.

The jewelry is closed

There may be some slight to moderate bleeding.

Maybe redness but the pain fades quickly

Piercing is sensitive to the touch.

Healing:

The average healing time is 8-12 weeks or longer,

Clean with saline twice daily

Must practice cross-contamination prevention and isolate and avoid any contact with the piercing.

Clean hands

no oral contact or sexual contact without a condom for the first 6 months

Keep bedding clean or anything that comes in contact clean

Avoid playing with the piercing or excessive movement.

Sex when comfortable, genital at first

Do not sleep on the piercing

First 3-5 days you can experience redness/discolor, heat, and tenderness to the touch.
Jewelry:

May need to downsize jewelry if the jewelry is loose when you are erect.

Avoid jewelry with sharp edges, points, or things hanging off it.

Living with the piercing:

The jewelry should be left in at all times.

Check the ends regularly.

When switching partners practice safe sex
Abandoning the piercing:

If the piercing is still healing and there is signs of infection, see your piercer or doctor before removing the jewelry

If the piercing is healthy and still healing, treat it like any other wound or cut.

Will close but may appear open for a long period of time.
-
Often there is large indention scars, these may not go away completely but should fade over time.
-
The holes may produce a cream cheese-like discharge, this is sebum.
