PAC S02 EP30 Scrotum Piercings Pros & Cons

Disclaimer

  • Male Genital piercing through the outer skin of the scrotum is pierced with a ring or circular jewelry.

  • Surface to surface.

  • Can be placed anywhere on the scrotum that can be pinched but are usually dead center or off to the sides where the scrotum attaches to the body and folds called Hafada. Can be done in groupings or ladders.

  • interlayer and outer layer to control temperature.

History:

  • Hafada piercings are said to be derived from the Arabs and a rite of passage into manhood. The piercing was placed where the scrotum attaches to the body and there is often a fold. This was done to prevent the testicles from returning to the body. However, since the main source is Doug Malloy it could be yet another piercing myth.

  • We do know that the piercing was developed in the 70s more than likely in the BDSM Leather Subculture and then perfected at the gauntlet.

Pros

  1. Doesn’t interrupt sex as much

  2. A long history of healing

  3. Placement options & Groupings

  4. easy to conceal

  5. no throbbing and aching

Cons

  1. Doesn’t improve sexual activities

  2. safe sex for 6 months & STD risks

  3. Partner may not like it.

  4. Rejection & Migration

  5. bleeding

 

Things to look for:

  • Piercer is experienced in this piercing, professional, informative and make you feel comfortable, and offer a consultation that involves aftercare, risks, etc…

  • The piercer should evaluate your anatomy.

  • Should have correct jewelry as in no thinner than 12g and should be a ring or circular BB.

  • Can bleed for 5-6 days and you may need to use a sanitary napkin or pad. Buy them in advance.

  • Some sexual activity may be uncomfortable

  • Does the piercer provide aftercare products and written and verbal aftercare instructions?

 

The Piercing Experience:

  • Consultation & Jewelry Selection

  • Waiver, Set Up, and Disinfection

  • The marking, the piercer should pinch the area to determine that the piercing is only going through the out sack and not deeper. Depending on the placement they may have you stand and lift a leg to gauge how it will affect walking or other activities.

  • Should be done forceps. The area is clamped

  • Pierced straight through

  • The jewelry follows the needle.

  • The jewelry is closed

  • There may be some slight to moderate bleeding.

  • Maybe redness but the pain fades quickly

  • Piercing is sensitive to the touch.

Healing:

  • The average healing time is 8-12 weeks or longer,

  • Clean with saline twice daily

  • Must practice cross-contamination prevention and isolate and avoid any contact with the piercing.

    • Clean hands

    • no oral contact or sexual contact without a condom for the first 6 months

    • No Swimming

    • Keep Pets Away

    • Keep bedding clean or anything that comes in contact clean

  • Avoid playing with the piercing or excessive movement.

  • Sex when comfortable, genital at first

  • Do not sleep on the piercing

  • First 3-5 days you can experience redness/discolor, heat, and tenderness to the touch.

Jewelry:

  • should leave jewelry in at all times

  • Avoid jewelry with sharp edges, points or things hanging off it.

  • Best Jewelry Options:

    • CBR or Fixed Bead Ring

    • A circular Barbell can be worn but you will need to check the ends.

  • The Piercing jewelry may come in contact with mucus membrane tissue and sliver jewelry should be avoided.

Living with the piercing:

  • The jewelry should be left in at all times.

  • When switching partners practice safe sex

  • Avoid any clothing that might snag on the jewelry.

Abandoning the piercing:

  • If the piercing is still healing the piercing should close quickly. Practice cross-contamination

  • Make sure that there are no signs of infection or other problems before removing it. If there are, see your piercer or doctor.

  • Will leave a raised tube-like bump with scarring on each side. Over time this will fade.
