Disclaimer

  • Female Genital piercing through the upper part of the Labia Minora that covers the clitoris known as the clitoral hood. The Horizontal version is done through the hood with the ring hang down toward the bottom.

  • Often called a clit piercing but the clitoris itself is not pierced at all. Only the jewelry has contact with the glam.

  • Anatomy - Hill

History:

  • Though there is mention of male genital piercings in a number of tribal cultures, there is little or no mention of female genital piercings.

  • Developed more than likely at gauntlet in the late 1970s and early 1980s and was popular in the BDSM and punk subculture. Though the vertical version may have come about later. For many, the first exposure came in 1994’s Pulp Fiction.

  • In the early 21st century, the piercing moved into the mainstream to become the most common female genital.

Pros:

  1. enhances sexual pleasure

  2. A long history of healing

  3. Easy Heal

  4. Doesn’t affect lifestyle

  5. easy to conceal

  6. no throbbing and aching

Cons

  1. Anatomy

  2. more prone to STDs

  3. safe sex for 6 months

  4. May Loose sensitivity

  5. too much sensation

  6. bleeding

 

Things to look for:

  • Piercer is experienced in this piercing, professional, informative and make you feel comfortable and offer a consultation that involves aftercare, risks, etc…

  • The piercer should evaluate your anatomy.

  • Should have correct jewelry as in no thinner than 14g and should be a ring or circular BB.

  • Can bleed for 5-6 days and you may need to use a sanitary napkin or pad. Buy them in advance.

  • It is not going to feel comfortable to have sex for the first week or more.

  • Does the piercer provide aftercare products and written and verbal aftercare instructions?

 

The Piercing Experience:

  • Consultation & Jewelry Selection

  • Waiver, Set Up, and Disinfection

  • The marking should be marked at the top of the hood and the piercer should hold the jewelry in place to make sure the ring is going to hang where it needs to be.

  • Should be done forceps. The area is clamped

  • Pierced straight through

  • The jewelry follows the needle.

  • The jewelry is closed

  • There may be some slight to moderate bleeding.

  • Maybe redness but the pain fades quickly

  • Piercing is sensitive to the touch.

Healing:

  • The average healing time is 8-12 weeks or longer,

  • Clean with saline twice daily

  • Must practice cross-contamination prevention and isolate and avoid any contact with the piercing.

    • Clean hands

    • no oral contact or sexual contact without a condom for the first 6 months

    • No Swimming

    • Keep Pets Away

    • Keep bedding clean or anything that comes in contact clean

  • Avoid playing with the piercing or excessive movement.

  • Sex when comfortable, genital at first

  • Do not sleep on the piercing

  • First 3-5 days you can experience redness/discolor, heat and tenderness to the touch.

Jewelry:

  • should leave jewelry in at all times

  • May need to try different sizes and shapes to see what works best

  • Avoid jewelry with sharp edges, points or things hanging off it.

  • Best Jewelry Options:

    • CBR or Fixed Bead Ring

    • A circular Barbell can be worn but you will need to check the ends.

  • The Piercing is through a mucus membrane and sliver jewelry should be avoided.

Living with the piercing:

  • The jewelry should be left in at all times.

  • When switching partners practice safe sex

  • Chasity - clit shield usually use a set of hch with a VCH or Christina.

Abandoning the piercing:

  • If the piercing is still healing the piercing should close quickly. Practice cross-contamination

  • Make sure that there are no signs of infection or other problems before removing it. If there are, see your piercer or doctor.

  • May never close

  • sebum
