History

The piercing is a modern invention and it credited to BME founded Shannon Larratt.

Pros:

1. Very unique and rare

2. fits well into the anatomy

3. Unlike many experimental piercings, it has a history of healing

4. Claimed to be Less Painful than traditional lobe piercings

5. A large variety of Jewelry even rings

Cons

1. Piercing is slower than other piercings

2. Much longer healing time

3. Risk of migration and rejection

4. Risk of abscesses

5. Can close quickly

Things to look for:

• The piercer should have experience with this piercing. It is rare so it might be hard to find someone that has done them.

• The piercing should be done freehand and without forceps

• Jewelry for attached lobe should be done with a curved barbell

• With unattached a straight barbell or labret is best.

• Should discuss the risks of abscesses and rejection.

• Should discuss any future piercing plans in the lobe area.

The Piercing Experience:

• The piercing entrance, exit, and angle should be marked

• The piercing can be much slower than other piercings.

• The piercing may or may not be done with a curved or bent needle

• Depending on the shape of the lobe, the piercer will support the lobe between their thumb and fore finger.

Healing:

• Average healing time is 6-12 Months

• Saline twice daily

• Must practice cross-contamination prevention and isolate and avoid any contact with the piercing.

• First 3-5 you can experience slight bleeding off and on, redness/discolor, heat, and tenderness to the touch.

• The piercing should be monitored for abscesses and bumps or signs of migration or rejection.

Living with the piercing:

• The jewelry should be left in at all times. Longer piercings like this one will close faster than other piercings.

• May impact the placement of future or current piercings in the area

• Stretching piercings in the area can lead to issues.

Abandoning the piercing:

• Well begin to close quickly but may look open for some time.

• There will be a small indented circular scar on each side. This may fade in time.
