Pros:

1. Rare and unusual piercing

2. Experimental

3. Proves a tolerance to piercings

4. Will be left with an interesting scar

5. You didn’t want that money anyway

Cons:

1. High risk of rejection

2. Can not sleep on that side

3. Closes quickly

4. Can affect employment

5. Can not remove the jewelry

Things to Look for:

• Pre-piercing consultation involving risks

• Piercer with Experience with Surface to Surface piercings

• Surface to Surface Barbell, not Curved Barbell

• How much movement there is in the area

Piercing Experience:

• May involve massaging the area to loosen tissue

• can be slower than other piercings

• Can be more painful

Healing:

• Reactions to trauma 3-5 days

• • Redness

  • slight bleeding

  • swelling

  • heat/fever

  • tenderness to the touch

• Monitor for signs of rejections

• • redness and drying out of the area

  • movement of the piercing

  • the skin becomes translucent or seeing the jewelry through the skin

Living with the piercing:

• The jewelry can never be changed.

• Should avoid trauma to the area

• at the first sign of rejection remove the jewelry

Abandoning the piercing:

• Will close quickly

• will leave an indention scar on each side

• If it is rejecting the scarring will be more pronounced.
