Pierced traditionally through the ridge of the nostril on the left or right side.
History

Dates back to 4000-5000 years ago when it was first recorded in the middle east

It's mentioned in the bible through the translation was changed to earring, the original text refers to a nose-ring. Genesis 24:22

Has a history within the Indian Culture dating back to the 16th century

The Indian tradition is that the piercing on the right side makes childbirth easier

The piercing is also represented in the native tribes of Africa and North America
-
In modern time the piercing was heavily associated with subcultures including the counter culture of the 1960 but is more associated with the Punk Rock Movement.

Socially accepted

A long history of healing easily

Not prone to rejection or migration

A large variety of jewelry styles

Enhances and draws attention
Cons

Effects employment or playing organized sports

Can not sleep on it

Can not wear makeup during the healing

Piercing can be prone to scarring

Jewelry will need to be oversize while healing

Things to look for:
-
The piercer should have experience with the piercing
-
The piercer should offer a consultation that involves aftercare, risks, etc…

The piercer should evaluate your anatomy
-
If you are planning on wearing a ring, they should discuss placement
-
If they pierce with a ring, the jewelry must be oversized
The Piercing Experience:
-
Pierced usually freehand with a small cork or Needle Receiving Tube supporting the tissue but can also be done with forceps
-
The piercing is usually very quick
-
pain may be throbbing or aching for a few minutes afterward
-
can bleed
-
will usually make your eyes water
Healing:
-
Average healing time is 8-12 weeks or longer
-
Saline twice daily
-
Must practice cross-contamination prevention and isolate and avoid any contact with the piercing.

First 3-5 you can experience slight bleeding off and on, redness/discolor, heat, and tenderness to the touch.

The piercing should be monitored for abscesses and bumps or signs of issues
-
makeup should be kept away from the piercing.

masks should be limited contact and changed often

Do not sleep on the piercing

Especially with Nostril Screws and L Bends, limit contact especially

* when washing your face, drying off, or changing clothing

Living with the piercing:

The jewelry should be left in at all times.

Avoid pressure or trauma to the piercing

Adjust or change loose jewelry
Abandoning the piercing:

Well begin to close quickly but may look open for some time.

There will be a small indented circular scar on each side. This may fade in time.
