History

Though it is claimed that the piercing dates back to the Kama Sutra, the reference is to the cap-like prostheses that are worn to increase the size of the penis. Like many modern piercings and the myths behind them, the piercing was named by Doug Malloy. He also claimed that the piercing was practiced in India and mentioned in the Kama Sutra.

Pros:

1. Enhances sexual pleasure for the wearer and partner

2. Is a well-established piercing

3. Easily conceal

4. Most have the anatomy for the piercing

5. Uncommon piercing

Cons

1. One of the Most painful male genital piercings

2. Bleeding

3. Longer healing

4. Partners may not like it

5. More prone to STDS

Things to look for:

• Piercer should be well experienced with this piercing and other male genital piercings.

• They should measure the penis erect when sizing the jewelry

• Should not be done with a dermal punch. This can greatly reduce the body’s ability to seal the wound and stop the bleeding. In theory, you could bleed to death.

The Piercing Experience:

• The piercing can be done either by clamping with a set of Foster’s Forceps or freehand. Both have their own advantages and you should discuss your piercer’s choice in the method.

• Often the piercing is done in two pushes or two sessions. The Prince Albert piercing done with a needle receiving tube and then the push through the glands.

• Any piercing through the glans will be the most painful of all male genital piercings.

• Heavy bleeding is common and you should be prepared for this.

Healing:

• Heavy bleeding for up to 5 days is not uncommon.

• One of the longest healing period of all male genital piercings and can take up to six months or longer.

• Sexual activity will be uncomfortable and impaired throughout the healing period. This can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

• A latex barrier will need to be worn during sexual activity regardless of your relationship with your partner until the piercing is completely healed. Generally, I wouldn’t suggest unprotected sex for at least a year.

Living with the piercing:

• The jewelry must be left in at all times. With longer piercings like this, it is much easier from your body to close the piercing.

• The jewelry can be uncomfortable for some partners and can cause damage when receiving oral sex.

• More acceptable to STDs even after the piercing is healed.

Abandoning the piercing:

• Well begin to close quickly but may look open for some time.

• There will be a small indented circular scar on each side. This may fade in time.
