Finding Your Piercer in 2021 Part 1 Verification - Body Piercing Basics EP99

In the 99th episode in our Youtube series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo gives you advice on how to find and choose the right piercer for you. In Part 1 he covers how to verify the piercer's experience and skills.

Show Notes:

  • Anyone can claim to be a professional piercer

  • State incensing:

    • only involves the bare medium and doesn’t involve training beyond cross-contamination prevention in most cases.

    • if you are in a state that is regulated it’s important that they are licensed

  • There is no college of piercing

  • All professional organizations are completely voluntary, require dues, and do not address the skill or training of the piercer

  • Seminars:

    • Usually are a 4-day course

    • Is not designed to pierce professionally

    • Is suggested as something to do before starting an apprenticeship

  • Apprenticeship:

    • Should have been completed

    • Often is hard to verify

    • The relationship could have ended badly

  • Images, reviews & References:

    • Images should be of healed piercings

    • Most reviews are either 5 stars or 1 star. Usually, the most common reviews are negative and done moments after the piercing.

    • References should be people that have healed piercings

      • Ask about the piercing process

      • Ask about the jewelry

      • Ask about aftercare instructions

      • Ask about support after the piercing
