The difference is in how the balls or ends thread onto the post.
With external threading, the post is threaded and works like a screw, with the ball working as a nut.
Internally, the ball or end has a post attached to it that is threaded. The post is countersunk and threaded. So, the ball is the screw and the post is the nut or female. Internally threaded jewelry is more expensive, but the advantages are that since the threading is not on the post, it doesn't present the risk of dislodging the piercing. Threadless jewelry features a hollow post or a curved post, with the end terminating in a stem or a piece of wire. The wire is then bent, and when the stem is inserted into the post, it expands, creating a friction joint.
To get the end off, pull away from the post. To close, press the end into the post.
Pro hint - with nostril piercings, where it is hard to grab the disc on the inside of the nostril, take some dental floss, make a slipknot and loop it around the disc. Pull it tight and then pull off the end.

It is estimated that only 0.06% of the worldwide population is allergic to implant-grade Titanium Alloy. So, if you are sensitive to metals, titanium is one of your best options. Here at the Axiom, we stock titanium jewelry as our basic jewelry. So, if we do the piercing, you will be pierced with titanium jewelry or a combination of gold and titanium jewelry.
Yes, we offer anodization in 20 different colors here at the studio. The only colors we don't offer are black and red.
No, because I have yet to come across a manufacturer that has documentation of what the black and red coating is. The only exception is 14kt or better solid gold with a rhodium coating, which we are happy to special order.

It is best not to remove the jewelry and leave the piercing open without jewelry. This could result in the piercing closing. The Axiom stocks glass retainers. They are not the most secure or comfortable, but glass doesn't conduct electrical charges or interfere with X-rays, MRI scans, or other medical imaging devices.
