Changing Jewelry In a Healing Piercing - Body Piercing Basics EP96

In the 96th episode in our Youtube series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo covers changing jewelry in a piercing that is still healing. When you need to do it, how to do it, and when is the best time to do it yourself.

Show Notes:

When You Need to Change Jewelry:

  1. if the swelling is exceeding the length of the jewelry

  2. If the Jewelry is the improper style

  3. If you are having a reaction

  4. If the jewelry is too long

  5. If the jewelry is too heavy

Risks Of Changing Jewelry:

  1. The piercing could close

  2. Could have issues getting the jewelry in

  3. Could damage or cause trauma to the piercing

Best Methods:

  1. Have it changed professionally

  2. Use a water-based lubricant

  3. Only insert the jewelry that has been sterilized

  4. Use a guide pin to push the old jewelry out and the new jewelry in.

When is it Best to Change Jewelry:

  1. Double the healing time

  2. When the jewelry is loose and slides smoothly through the piercing

  3. As soon as the piercing is healed if the jewelry it oversized
