In the 92nd episode in our Youtube series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo covers how piercings may affect employment and how to avoid conflicts with employers over your piercings.

How Can Piercing Effect Employment:

  1. Can limit the job or income you want

  2. Can affect advancement

  3. Can affect what jobs you are allowed to do

  4. May require you to move to another city

  5. If you are going to be modified consider that when choosing a career. Talk to those that work in that industry about piercings and other modifications.

Levels of employment:

Restaurant example:

  1. Fast Food

  2. Counter Service

  3. Casual Dining

  4. Casual Fine Dining

  5. Fine Dining

Things to consider

  1. Piercings are generally more accepted on Females

  2. Large stretched piercings are less accepted

  3. Multiple piercings are less accepted

  4. The size and type of jewelry worn in the piercing

  5. More extreme piercings are less accepted

  6. How noticeable the piercing is(can you cover the piercing with hair or clothing)

  7. Is the piercing socially accepted or accepted in your industry?

 

What should be safe at work

  1. Any Piercing Below the Neck

  2. Ear piercings:

    1. Earlobe 

    2. Upper Ear Cartilage

    3. Daith

    4. Conch

    5. Flat

  3. Facial Piercings:

    1. Septum

    2. Nostril?

  4. Oral Piercings:

    1. Mid-line Tongue Piercing

    2. Venom?
